These texts are a good resource, but the first two can be quite technical. The Mitchell book is more basic, but only covers a limited number of topics.

These texts provide a good overview of the field of medical geography, with plenty of public health case example, including international examples.

GIS Books
The first resource is a tutorial, with sample data included to use with ArcGIS software. The Mitchell books are more general, and do not cover commands. Volume 2 is a nice basic review of spatial epi.

The Built Environment
Lynch is a classic book on urban form, but not necessarily connected to public health. The Frumkin book is a nice overview of the perils of sprawl.
